Boat Trips

Top of the list of course! You must take a boat trip when you come to Vilamoura. Not only is the Algarve coastline absolutely gorgeous, a day at sea is one of the most fun and most relaxing things to do when on holiday. Our fabulous yacht B.Happy is available for private charter for full days trips, shorter morning or afternoon trips and breath-taking sunset trips. With a glass of bubbles in hand, the sun on your shoulders and in the company of your favourite people, we reckon this is one of the very best things to do when in Vilamoura.

Always fun, mini-golf is a hit with all ages. The Family Golf Park in Vilamoura has two very well laid out courses, one is classic mini-golf, the other is crazy golf. With a Roman theme (there are Roman ruins in Vilamoura – more on that below) the park also has a games room, snack bar and sunny terrace. Open until midnight in the summer months, it’s great fun for all the family or for groups of friends.

Bonus tip: the Family Golf Park also runs a Tourist Train around the resort. A very handy way to get around, and the kids will love it!

Cerro da Vila – Roman Ruins

Adjacent to Vilamoura marina you will find the remains of a roman maritime villa, Cerro da Vila, c. 1st – 5th AD, with vestiges of the villa, mosaics, public baths and fountains. You can see bracelets, oil lamps, rings and broches in the museum. A reminder that Vilamoura’s coastal location was popular long before today. Cerro da Vila is open Monday to Friday, children under 13 have free entry.

Tennis and Padel

Did you know that Vilamoura is home to one of the best tennis and padel clubs in the Algarve? Located just back from the marina, the club is set on expansive grounds. There are several tennis courts which you can hire out or sign up for some coaching with one of the resident coaches.

Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world right now. It’s fun, sociable and much easier than tennis to get to a level where you can play matches with your friends. Vilamoura has 8 padel courts, including covered courts, so you can play in the shade during the day. You can hire out the equipment you need at the club.

Bonus tip – there is a great restaurant at the Club, serving pizzas, pastas, salads and more. Overlooking the courts and with a children’s playground, it’s a great spot to relax, even if you’re not playing sports.

Biking in Vilamoura

A great way to explore! Vilamoura is not a hilly resort, so pedal power is a relaxing way to discover the resort. You can hire out all kinds of bikes – mountain bikes, electric bikes, bikes for kids and even electric scooters from Vilamourabikes.com located on the marina. They also offer guided bike tours such as the Seafood & Wine tour which includes a heavenly seafood lunch in a local restaurant and a Nature tour that follows off-road biking trails.

Vilamoura Nature Trail

Vilamoura is a resort designed for life lived in the sun so there are walking and cycle paths throughout the resort. There is a lovely nature trail you can follow which is just over 5km long. Starting near the Equestrian Centre you can follow the trails along the fields and riverbanks and there are two bird observatories along the way.

Vilamoura Marina

The marina here is a multi-award winning modern marina. It is the best place for people-watching, for cold drinks on hot days, fun nights at the bars and for watching those sleek, shiny yachts head out to sea. Start your day with breakfast at one of the many restaurants or cafés. For instance, the News Café is a fabulous spot (and not just for breakfast, lunch and dinner are winners here too), or watch the sun go down with a chilled glass in hand. We love the Atlantic Bar – great cocktails, great smiles, and some pretty crazy party nights!

There are all sorts of cuisines to enjoy at the marina, from sushi to Portuguese to Thai, to steakhouses and more. There are all-day bars serving pub grub, as well as Irish Bars, such as O’Neills and The Brewery, that really ramp up the fun as the sun goes down, with live music and pints aplenty. Or simply wander the marina, admiring the views with some Italian Gelato to savour as you stroll.

Vilamoura Casino

If you’re feeling lucky, there’s a casino in Vilamoura. Right by the beach, there’s a restaurant and bar, dinner with a show, and of course the game tables and hundreds of slot machines.

Praia da Falésia, on the western side of Vilamoura, is an award-winning, and much-photographed, beach. Fine sand, backed by ochre cliffs topped with umbrella pines, this is an iconic beach.
